The Journalists Support Committee in Geneva (JSC) denounces the violent attack on journalists during coverage of the protest movements against the Tunisian President’s actions on Sunday, October 10th, 2021, in Habib Bourguiba Street in Tunisian Capital, especially against the National Television crew, among which the following journalists were hurt the most: Fadwa Shatoro, Atef Bin Hussein, and Ayman Hajj Salem (a severe head injury).

Declaring full solidarity with the journalists who have been attacked, the committee calls for the necessity of ensuring all means of protection for all journalists and workers in the media sector, in order to preserve the right of the community to obtain information from its sources, follow up on events, and respect international laws that protect journalists.

It also calls upon concerned Tunisian authorities to expedite transparent investigations based on evidence and tangible facts to reveal the details of the assault, impose just and necessary penalties against the aggressors, and end cases of impunity.
