The Committee participated in the Association of European Journalists' General Assembly in the presence of the Greek Minister of Information and Communications

At the gracious invitation of Ms. Saia Tsaousidou, the president of the Association of European Journalists - Greece branch, the Secretary-General of the Journalist Support Committee, Mr. Yasser Al Sayegh, participated at the 65th General Assembly of the Association of European Journalists on Friday, November 30, 2018, in Agrinio city west of Greece.

The conference was attended by Greek Minister of Digital Policy Mr. Nikos Pappas, Greek Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mr. Christos Spirtsis, Deputy President of the Hellenic Parliament Mr Giorgos Varemenos, Mayor of Agrinio Mr. Giorgos Papanastasiou, New Mayor of the Brussels Region Mr. Christos Doulkeridis, President of the Association of European Journalists Mr. Otmar Lahodynsky.

The conference was based on three main topics, interspersed with a break and conversation. The first topic included inaugural speech which was presented by the President of the Aitoloakarnania Association Journalist, the Deputy President of the Hellenic Parliament, Deputy Head Region of Western Greece and Mayor of Agrinio. They welcomed the audience and praised the work of the Association.

The second topic entitled, "Can Europe remain democratic?", where speakers addressed general themes regarding the political and economic situation in Europe, especially the issue of Brexit and its impact on the economic situation in European countries. The issue of refugees in Europe was also discussed, in addition to the issue of security, unity and the importance of adhering to the democratic system.

Concerning the last topic which was devoted to exchanging talks between journalists and High School students under the title: "The new media landscape", where several topics were discussed, mainly concerning Fake News and digital rights.

At the conclusion of the conference, the organizers presented the final statement and thanked the audience and participants for their attendance. The guests were also taken to a luncheon at Lake Trichonida and a city tour across Agrinio.
