The Red Cross and the Journalist Support Committee in Palestine organized a workshop on the protection of journalists in International Humanitarian Law

The Coordinator of the Journalist Support Committee, Mr. Saleh Al-Masri, stressed the importance of Palestinian journalists to learn about international humanitarian law and occupational safety in the field due to the gross violations they are subjected to by the Israeli occupation.

The workshop organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with the Journalist Support Committee, entitled "Protection of Journalists in International Humanitarian Law", was participated by 20 local press organizations in Gaza. At the opening of the workshop, the coordinator of the Journalist Support Committee in Palestine, Mr Saleh Al Masry, affirmed that there are serious mistakes committed by fellow journalists during their field coverage that must be avoided in the interest of their safety.

The workshop, which will last for two days, will include international humanitarian laws, occupational safety, the working mechanisms of the Red Crescent staff and means of press protection.

The press secretary of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Ms. Suheir Zaqout, confirmed that the workshop aims to disseminate and increase knowledge of the International Humanitarian Law and the importance of respect for human dignity during armed conflicts.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) noted that it is working to raise awareness among journalists, especially those working on the ground and in conflict zones, in order to strengthen the protection of human life, preserve human values and reduce the disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force.
