Cooperation Agreement between JSC and AEJ

Activities

The Journalist Support Committee held a working agreement with the Association of European Journalists at the General Assembly Congress in Vilnius, Lithuania. The agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation between the two parties to serve the interest of media and journalists members of the two organizations.

The cooperation program was concluded between the President of the Association of European Journalists, Professor Otmar Lahodynsky and the Secretary-General of the Journalist Support Committee, Mr. Yasser Al-Sayegh, in the presence of the Association’s Vice President, Ms. Saia Tsaousidou, and the Association’s Secretary-General, Mr. Tibor Mucak.

The program includes the following:

  • To coordinate positions to effectively promote the values of tolerance between cultures and respect for others through the media.
  • To protect and promote freedom of opinion and expression.
  • To defend the right of media and media professionals to freedom of opinion and expression and access to information.

The two sides also agreed to open channels of dialogue between members of the two organizations and joint action to combat hate speech, incitement, Islamophobia, organized crime, illegal immigration and to raise awareness of humanitarian issues.

In practice, the two sides agreed to cooperate in the field of media training, attending conferences and seminars and issuing joint statements within their competence.

In conclusion, the Secretary-General of the Journalist Support Committee, Mr. Yasser Al-Sayegh presented a "heritage" ornament as a tribute to the Association’s efforts in defending freedom of speech.
